When it comes to traveling with children, I have no experience nor am I an expert on the topic. However, many of my readers do have babies and small children and like to travel! So, this month’s guest travel post is being written by someone who is an expert on the topic, Nancy Shaw.
Nancy is a nurse, mom, and the founder of HiFiveBaby.com, where she writes about everyday parenting, motherhood, babies, toddlers, and kids. She shares her personal perspective as a mom and backs it up with science and medicine.
Keep on reading if you want to know more about Nancy’s suggestions for finding the best travel system to fit a small car without compromising safety and comfort.
Traveling With Babies in Small Cars – What’s the Best Travel System?
Guest Post by Nancy Shaw
For car seats, it’s all about the perfect fit. You should always get one that’s best suited for your vehicle, but just because you don’t have an SUV, doesn’t mean there’s nothing for you.
In fact, you can find a travel system that fits a small car and still allows you to feel comfortable.
1. Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System Papyrus
I’m always up for anything that offers convenience both for the baby and the whole family. It has a removable seat which you can easily use as a sleek and stylish frame carrier.
And another huge plus is how fast you can transition to using the stroller because of the self-standing compact folded position. Storing it is relatively no-fuss too since it features a one-hand fold.
And if you’re still not sold, Chicco threw in cup holders and a parent tray with storage. It’s all you need for hassle-free travel with the little one.

2. Evenflo Vive Travel System with Embrace, Spearmint Spree
It’s a great fit for parents who are always on-the-go and don’t have time to remove car seats or just want to make transitioning easier especially to avoid disturbing sleeping babies.
From the multiple reclining positions and 3-5 point harness to the large canopy and full sun visor – it doesn’t skimp on the tiniest details to keep the child comfortable and safe.
With its ultra slim 16-inch fold, it won’t take up much space and thus, makes it ideal for those with compact cars. Any trunk or vehicle can accommodate it.
3. Graco Aire3 Click Connect Travel System
While Graco is known for their high quality and durable baby gears, not every model is fit for travel mostly because some strollers are bulky and take up way too much space which poses a problem for those with small cars.
The car seat can accommodate infants weighing 4 to 35 pounds. And the self-standing, three-wheel stroller automatically locks and easily folds using just one hand.
On top of that, it has a carrying strap designed for maximum portability. Using this system is pretty much foolproof even for first-time users.

4. Baby Trend Expedition LX Travel System
This one doesn’t just include any other stroller, but it’s in fact, a jogger type. Thus, it would fit in nicely for active parents.
It has a front-locking wheel and all-terrain tires when jogging, and it also boasts of easy manoeuvrability.
It even has an adjustable canopy, parent and child trays, and a large storage basket which will surely come in handy for mums who don’t like bringing bulky diaper bags.
It might look a bit inconvenient to bring around, but it allows for an extra compact storage. The car seat can accommodate even a 30-inch tall child.

5. Quinny Buzz 3 Travel System in Blue Black
Let me just go ahead and say this is probably one of the best-looking systems I’ve ever seen. It’s gender neutral, and the colours are easy on the eyes.
Both the stroller and car seat look sleek, stylish and sophisticated. It features an automatic fold-out system and an innovative technique that allows it to unfold fully without any problem.
For added convenience, you can easily remove the car seat as use it as an infant carrier which includes a contoured handle. All in all, it’s a win-win for both parents and baby.

6. Safety 1st Smooth Ride Travel System With OnBoard 35 LT Infant Car Seat
It might be cheaper than some of the other products listed here, but that doesn’t mean it compromised the quality.
Aside from fitting into a small car, two things you should always consider before buying are safety and comfort.
There’s adequate support for newborn babies with head and body inserts. Two other notable features include a side-harness protection and four harness heights to accommodate a growing child easily.
The stroller has agile wheels which help ensure maximum manoeuvrability. It even has a one-hand lift-to-fold design and also self-stands when folded!

7. Disney Amble Quad Travel System
If you want something more adorable for your little girl, then perhaps you’d like something like this. It is one of those times when functionality meets fashion.
It features the QuickClick system which allows you to attach the car seat to the stroller with, you guessed it, one click.
It has an adjustable base which also ensures enough stability for the baby. And with the lift-to-fold, storing it is relatively quick and easy.
It has a lightweight frame and transitioning the child from the seat to the stroller is no-fuss and won’t disturb their sleep.

8. Maxi-Cosi Adorra Travel System with Mico Max 30 Infant Car Seat
You might notice that this is way pricier than those other models and brands listed in this article. Well, it’s still for good reason, although, I wouldn’t advise going beyond what you can afford.
The car seat is lightweight and isn’t too bulky when used as a carrier. It has included infant inserts to ensure maximum comfort and support for babies and also allows full recline.
The stroller, on the other hand, has an extra-large basket and parent cup holder and tray. Both have flip-out visors to protect from the sun and high wind.

9. gb Lyfe Travel System
What I like about the stroller included here is the versatility. It lets you transform it into a pram which would provide maximum comfort for the child while napping.
The extra-large canopy isn’t just for shielding against the sun and the wind, it also ensures superior ventilation which would come in handy for summer or in places with warm weather.
Because of the two-hand, one-step fold, storing it is a breeze. It doesn’t feel bulky for those with small cars, and it has a plush and luxurious feel without breaking the bank.
With the two-touch brakes and robust rear suspension, you’ll rest easy knowing the child is safe.

There may be other options, like purchasing a different car seat and stroller frame. But the thing is, you’re not exactly 100% sure it will fit snugly and securely unless you try it out first-hand.
