Monkeying Around Attire for Monkey Park in Kyoto

ModCloth Stylish Surprise Dress

One day I’m planning what to wear to hang out with Geisha, and the next it’s what to wear to monkey around with monkeys on the side of a mountain. Haha. Needless to say, we had quite the jampacked weekend in Kyoto!

The photos above are of me are on Bamboo Forest Street, and the rest are at Monkey Park Iwatayama. The monkey park was so fun! All the monkeys are wild, and one of the monkeys even had the teeniest, tiniest little baby! I’ll be sharing more monkey and bamboo photos in this post, though.

For hiking up the side of a mountain (it’s about a 20-minute walk up a mountain to get to the monkeys), comfort was key. It was so unbelievably humid it had looked like I had taken a shower by the time I reached the monkeys! And sundresses are always the best bet for staying cool. This one is my go-to for comfortable and has been featured on my blog at least a thousand times now. (Sorry!)

But hey – at least I’m wearing different sandals! Haha. These sandals are some of the oldest shoes I think I own. I’ve had them for at least 10 years…I think they were honestly my first online purchase that I ever made. (They are Coconuts by Matisse and came from Zappos, I think?) Unfortunately, you probably won’t be seeing them again. This is because just as I was getting ready to hike back down the mountain…one of the straps broke on my sandal. I suppose for as much use as they have gotten over the last decade, it was time. I’m debating repairing them with super glue, or ordering a similar pair from Amazon. Decisions, decisions!

The jewelry pictured above is all of my new favorite pieces to wear. I’ve hardly taken them off this summer – they just all go so well together! I even wore the necklace and earrings while I hiked up (and down) Mount Fuji!

What are some of your go-to jewelry pieces? And who else would walk up the side of a mountain to see monkeys? Haha. Let me know in the comments!

  1. It’s a shame your sandal broke, but it seems like they have had a good run! Is international shipping that expensive that it’s not worth replacing them with the pair from Kohl’s?

I’m not tired of seeing this dress so frequently…I think it shows that there are many ways to style one item of clothing, and that’s always a good thing! 🙂

    1. They certainly did! And I actually repaired them with a bit of glue…so their run can last a bit longer. Haha. 🙂 And international shipping through Kohls seemed to be more of a pain in the butt than anything. You had to get a membership with myus.com (some shipping service) to get your stuff shipped to you (and I don’t even think they will work with Japan)…so, sigh. Haha. Amazon is fantastic, though! They’re shipping costs haven’t been bad at all…and stuff arrives in less than week usually. And I’m so glad you’re liking this dress! It’ll probably be featured a bazillion more times, haha. 🙂

  2. I totally understand why you’ve coveted those sandals, Lindsey. I cleaned out my closet some years back and got rid of a similar pair. I’ve always regretted it!
Cute outfit, and the monkey park looks like fun. Were they all well-behaved? I think it would make me nervous to stand where you did!

    1. They are the best sandals! I’m seriously still wearing them and have repaired them with glue, haha. I just couldn’t say goodbye yet. 😉 And the monkeys were very well-behaved…there was one who was kind of a stinker, but the park employees would scold him and he would settle down. Haha.

  3. The dress is one of my favourites of yours. You look so beautiful in it.
This outfit is both pretty and seems comfortable.
    Much love,
    Mona

  4. Too bad about the sandals, they were so cute! The dress looks flattering and very comfy too. 🙂

    1. I’ve tried to repair them with glue, haha…I just can’t let them go yet! And thank you so much, Laurie! 🙂

  5. Love how the green matches the background! You look amazing! It’s always a bummer when shoes or other items that last seemingly forever bite the dust! May those shoes rest…:( XO

    1. Aw, thank you, Lauren! And that was not planned at all. Haha. And I’ve currently attempted to repair the shoes with glue…we’ll see how long it lasts! I’m just not ready to say goodbye yet! 😉

  6. Oh my goodness, you look SO pretty! I adore that dress and all the cute accessories! Seriously cute!

  7. I as well have some items from over 10 years ago haha. Hey, if its still good, why waste it?! This is so cool that you got to see monkeys on the side of a mountain! Is it like a zoo?

    1. Haha! Exactly! And thank you so much, Amanda! It’s actually just a park where wild monkeys congregate because they get fed there a couple times a day. I’m not sure how “wild” they are anymore, though, as they seem pretty dependent on their feeding times and aren’t afraid of humans at all!

  8. Lovely pictures! That monkey park is so cool!
You look absolutely beautiful, Lindsey! 🙂 Love that dress. Such a lovely color on you!! <3

  9. Beautiful outfit. The dress flatters you and the sandals are cute. Sorry this was probably their last wear, but ten years is a long life for any item. On the bright side, you get to pick out new shoes!

I saw wild monkeys in Granada which has a rain-forest — and eleven types of bananas, all bursting with intense flavor. Travel is wonderful, as you amply demonstrate here. Great post.

    1. Aw, thank you so much! Ten years is indeed a long time, though. But yay for new shoes! Haha. Oh wow, seeing wild monkeys and bananas would be exciting! I honestly didn’t know there were 11 different types of bananas, and that they could all be in one rainforest in Granada is very interesting! I learned something new! Thank you for sharing! 🙂
