blanket scarf and modcloth dress

Shop the post: Alright, so I am a bit late to this trend…I think about two years late, actually. Are blanket scarves even trendy anymore? Probably not. Haha. But I’ve always been hesitant to invest in anything trendy and am usually the last blogger to jump on board. But this is one trend I was really missing out on! (And will continue to wear whether it’s “cool” or not!) While I was home for the holidays in Wisconsin, my mom… Read more »

This month’s travel guest post is taking us to Mexico! The author, Andrew Tjong, just came back from San Miguel de Allende and had a magnificent time there. He’s originally from the Netherlands but is doing his MBA in China… and currently residing in Taiwan. He’s quite the seasoned traveler! Andrew has been to San Miguel de Allende a couple of times (most recently he was there for the entire summer) and has now written an ebook on all that… Read more »

eshakti butterfly midi dress

The butterfly is a flying flower, The flower a tethered butterfly. ~Ponce Denis Écouchard Lebrun For reasons I can’t exactly articulate, I really like that quote. And while flowers and butterflies are both equally unique & beautiful in real life, I also think they are equally as fun as prints. However, I’m always drawn to florals when selecting a dress. I think this is because finding butterfly print clothing just isn’t as common. It can be a rather unique find…. Read more »

Lilee Yamanato dress

My venture into form-fitting dresses & tight, leather jackets was a fun little run…but, it’s nice to get back to a very “me” type of outfit. I love to experiment with different looks and push the boundaries, but I also have days where I just don’t want to think about it too hard. And on such a day, I grab a cute fit and flare dress, a cardigan, sunnies & a pair of wedges (or flats). This particular dress is… Read more »

Henry newborn photos

I have someone very special to introduce you all to today, my nephew, Henry. This kind of post isn’t normal for my blog, but I’ve mentioned in previous posts I was able to meet Henry while I was home for the holidays, and that he’s the cutest little guy in the whole wide world. So, I figured I should give some photographic proof of his cuteness if I was going to keep bragging about him. Haha. Henry was only a… Read more »

Wilsons Leather Jacket

Shop the look: I know, the first thing that comes to mind for most people when getting dressed for a special occasion, like a wedding anniversary, is NOT a quirky Star Wars shirt, red leather jacket and a super fun Betsey Johnson camera purse. But, I’m not most people. Haha. My husband and I celebrated our 4th year of marriage on January 4th (last week). And, we originally didn’t have any big plans for it. However, we tried a couple… Read more »

modcloth striped skirt

Shop the look: Look! There’s snow! And I’m wearing an honest-to-goodness winter outfit – the first one in many moons! Haha. Don’t worry this isn’t Sydney. This was actually my Christmas Eve outfit for when I was back home by my family. I passed up the traditional red and green outfit for a couple of reasons this year. First being I really wanted to wear this outfit but it’s been too warm in Sydney, haha. The top and the skirt… Read more »

With millions and millions of dollars going into Sydney’s spectacular NYE firework show each year, it’s an event that can’t be missed if you’re in the city. I’ve never seen anything as incredible as this fireworks display! But the biggest dilemma is – where should you watch it from? I’m going to share my thoughts on where I watched the… Read more »

chic me cape

Shop the look: Happy 2017! I hope everyone had a great time ringing in the New Year! I was in Sydney for all the craziness this year – I’ll be putting together a post on Wednesday about what that was like. But for now, I’m going to talk about this here outfit! It’s no secret that I love capes and all things flowy. I mean, I REALLY love capes. So, I couldn’t resist ordering this cape from Chic Me. Capes… Read more »

So, 2016 was quite the year! From moving from New Jersey back to Wisconsin and then to Tokyo and then Sydney…phew! It was busy, to say the least, haha. But I loved every minute of it, and I was very grateful to have this blog to keep track of all the fun adventures. And I did a post last year on my favorite posts of the year, but I don’t know if I would be able to narrow it down… Read more »

Sydney sunset

I mean, how many city’s activities include scaling a bridge to relaxing on a beach to seeing a show at the famous Opera House and even petting a koala? Needless to say, Sydney has a little bit of everything! Now, 3 days will mean you… Read more »

Lilee yamanato dress

I bring it up pretty frequently that I’m not a fan of wearing tight dresses…and generally stay away from low cut tops as well. It’s not that I have any issues whatsoever with that type of clothing…I think it’s just because I haven’t quite found the right dress to feel comfortable in. I have had a rather hard time articulating why I haven’t felt totally comfortable in some of the bodycon dresses that I’ve sported on the blog…however, I really… Read more »

candy recipes

I am really not good at cooking or baking. I’m also not very patient when it comes to cooking or baking. If something requires more than a half hour of prep and more than a handful of ingredients…I’m definitely not going to attempt to make it. Which is unfortunate, because I come from a family of really amazing cooks! (I don’t know how that gene missed me, haha.) So, with it being the holidays, I asked my Mom and Grandma… Read more »

Tokyo Street food

Guest post by: Jeffrey Barroga It invigorates your soul, calms your weary morale, and widens your perspective in life: travel is one of life’s pleasures that seems to enrich your entire being as you do it more and more. Unfortunately, as much as there is to be gained by traveling, it’s also one of life’s more expensive pleasures. But that doesn’t mean that you have to limit yourself to traveling just locally. Don’t get me wrong, there are so many… Read more »

Makemechic wrap dress

Shop the look: It is starting to feel more and more like summer here in Sydney! This outfit was worn last weekend on a balmy Sunday afternoon…even the water was warm as it splashed my toes. But now, I’m currently in Wisconsin, where it’s well below freezing and very snowy! To say that I am cold would be an understatement, haha. I have definitely turned into “a baby” about the cold weather. (How did I ever do outfit posts in… Read more »

shein floral maxi skirt

Shop the look: I think I am officially at the age where it’s becoming acceptable to forget how old I am. Not that I’m implying I’m super old…I just kind of feel after the age of 21 (for us folks in the United States at least), age is just a number and doesn’t really matter all that much anymore. I honestly had to think about it for a moment when everyone asked how old I was turning this year, haha…. Read more »

Chic me tunic

Shop the look: Tunics, stretchy skinny jeans (with an elastic waistband, of course) & heels, this has been my outfit of choice on the days that are cool enough to get away with it. It’s just so comfy yet stylish! And honestly, it feels so odd to wear sundresses this close to Christmas, haha. I need to change it up now and again. I really love this tunic from Chic Me. It’s comfy, breathes well and is super affordable. Oh,… Read more »

passion lilie dress

Yippee! I found a fit and flare dress that is just long enough for me to be able to wear it in the breezy weather here. I still wore a pair of running shorts under this dress, just in case, but the cut and length kept it from flying up in the wind. It’s weird, how I never would’ve thought about getting a dress based on its ability to not embarrass me in the wind…until I arrived in Sydney. Not… Read more »

camel ride

One thing to be aware of before visiting Uluru in Central Australia is your entire trip will be based around sunsets and sunrises. And for me, personally, not being a morning person & needing obscene amounts of caffeine to survive…I find sunsets to be much more enjoyable! So, I really wanted to make our sunset experiences memorable when booking activities. After a little bit of research, I settled on a sunset camel ride for one night (because who doesn’t want… Read more »

Vipme dress

Shop the look: Woah, is that some knee showing in this post? Craziness! I’ve hardly worn anything that showed a little leg since I came to Sydney (thanks to its windy conditions). It’s also been awhile since I’ve worn a dress that is this fitted. However, this dress being fitted is the reason I can get away with wearing something a little shorter in the breezy weather here…I won’t have to worry about this dress flying up over my head… Read more »

Valley of the winds

After hearing I spent a few days near Uluru, most people are curious as to what I did exactly. After all, isn’t there just the big rock out there? However, even within Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, there’s an entire rock formation even LARGER than Uluru (Ayer’s Rock), that you can hike and enjoy. I would argue that Kata Tjuta is even more impressive than Uluru. However, like Kings Canyon (mentioned in this here post), it’s not well-known by us international… Read more »

STYLWE TUNIC

I hope everyone back in the US had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We were rather lazy about our Thanksgiving here. My husband and I ended up getting risotto and wine with our friends and watching the fireworks on Darling Harbour…I really didn’t have any desire to make a turkey for two people. (And honestly, I didn’t even see turkey as an option in my favorite grocery store – an even better excuse! Haha.) The weather in Sydney was nowhere near as… Read more »

Oh, it’s the most wonderful time of year! Where everything is on sale and stores are packed to the gills and lines are miles long. But, fortunately, we live in the age of the Internet! And all the lovely deals you can get in store are also available online! I’ve done all of my Christmas shopping online the past few years, and I am doing the same this year (plus, I want to get a couple things for myself, haha)…. Read more »

map skirt modcloth

Shop the look: These are the only photos from my trip to the Australian Outback where you won’t see me sweating profusely in crummy, old workout clothes. Haha. Most of my time in Uluru was spent being active, but for this night, I had a special candlelit dinner in the desert to go to (there’ll be a separate post on that), and wearing my map skirt, once again, felt like the perfect occasion. (I love wearing this skirt when I’m… Read more »
