Makemechic sleeveless trench coat

Shop the look: Happy Halloween! I hope everyone had a wonderful time celebrating this weekend/has a wonderful time celebrating today. As you may have noticed, I didn’t get a costume this year. Halloween is really not a big deal here in Sydney. So, I decided to save my pennies for another day. Our Halloween celebrations this year included getting a couple drinks and tacos with friends this weekend and also stuffing our faces with some yummy treats for Diwali. (Thanks… Read more »

QVB BUILDING

I’ve always been told nothing in life is free. And that is still technically true for the “I’m Free” tours. However, it is a pretty neat concept, in my opinion. The way it works is there is no set price, you just show up at the time the tour starts, and it lasts for about 3 hours. At the end of the tour you decide how much it was worth and then pay your tour guide accordingly. Pretty neat, right?… Read more »

JORD watches outfit

Shop the look: There are so many pieces in this outfit that I’m excited about I hardly know where to start! And you can even win my favorite part of the outfit! I think I’ll save that part for last, though. This outfit started with going on a ModCloth binge and ordering enough to get my free international shipping, haha. I finally invested in an Ooh La La Lady top and LOVE it. Bonus for it fitting perfectly with my… Read more »

grey trench coat

It’s funny that this week’s outfit post selected to be featured on Links à la Mode is actually the same outfit as what I had worn in yesterday’s “Skywalk” post. Yep, my “Seasonally Confused” outfit is what I had on to do the “Skywalk.” As you can see, I was not even a little prepared for what that all entailed! Haha. (Click here to see yesterday’s Skywalk post if you missed it.) And if you’re wondering, I’m still seasonally confused,… Read more »

sydney skywalk

Let me start this post off by saying, I am deathly afraid of heights and was pretty much in panic mode in every photo you see of me in this post. Haha. Obviously, I survived…so, there was no need to freak out. But I really hadn’t realized what Sydney Tower’s “Skywalk” all entailed when I signed up to do it with my husband. Sydney Tower is Sydney’s tallest free-standing structure. It offers amazing views of Sydney (obviously) and is one… Read more »

featuredfashionistabrittneyg

Meet Brittney! She’s this month’s Featured Fashionista and a creative force to be reckoned with! Many of you ModCloth-lovers may recognize Brittney from ModCloth’s “#fashiontruth” campaign. And she’s also the incredibly talented Art Director for Jonesboro-based magazine, “Occasions!” The ModCloth campaign (that we’ll talk more about shortly) is where I had originally been introduced to Brittney and how amazing and creative she is. And through the magic of social media, I felt I came to know Brittney even better. I’ve… Read more »

Sydney opera house

The Sydney Opera House is one of the first images that comes to mind when I think of Sydney… or even Australia. It’s an iconic building that is recognized worldwide (and is even a World Heritage site, now). So, needless to say, this was one of the first things we wanted to see when we arrived in Sydney…and we did check it out, but just the outside views. This past weekend was the first time we actually went to a… Read more »

ATM COLLECTION

Wishlist posts are something I love and hate putting together all at once. They are incredibly fun and exciting to make…but they also get my brain into fantasy shopping mode, which can be a bit dangerous. Taking a look back at my previous wishlist posts…I’ve actually ended up acquiring more from them than was probably necessary. Whoops! However, when ATM Collection reached out to me about this wishlist post, I thought this would be more of a therapeutic exercise. This… Read more »

shein blazer

Shop the look: Just as we were about to leave for the day, my husband looked at me and said, “You look too expensive to be standing next to me! Should I change?” As he was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I laughed and told him he looked great…and we went about our day. But that made me think about this outfit a little harder. If you took the accessories out of the equation, this outfit cost just under $70…. Read more »

manly beach

Manly Beach is a beach in Sydney that is best known for its surfing. However, I have zero interest to try surfing, thanks to having less than stellar coordination. Haha. But the surrounding area has some wonderful walking/hiking trails that offer outstanding views of the ocean and city…and the northern beaches are a bit calmer. (Right up my alley!) Side note: Manly Beach actually got its name because the guy who discovered it hundreds of years ago, thought the indengous… Read more »

zaful maxi skirt

Something I am not used to dealing with on a regular basis is wind gusts that just about knock me on my rear end when I leave a building. I am here to tell you about 75 percent of my days in Sydney have been WINDY. Sure, we would get windy days in Wisconsin, don’t get me wrong, but they were in the minority (we had other weather issues of the freezing variety to deal with instead). So, needless to… Read more »

Featherdale Wildlife Park

When I think of Australia, kangaroos, wallabies and gorgeous, natural scenery is what comes to mind. And don’t get me wrong, I love Sydney, but I’ve been dying to get close to a kangaroo and see some new views of the outdoors since I arrived here. So, thanks to our recent holiday weekend, my husband and I finally took some time to get out of the city center and get some fresh air! We took a bus tour from Sydney’s… Read more »

Fashion Weekend Sydney Outfit

Shop the look: My debate for what to wear for Fashion Weekend Sydney was not nearly as intense as my debate for what to wear for NYFW. This was a nice, laid back, fun, shopping event…that I would also get to be sitting for a good portion of...thanks to the runway shows & champagne lounge area. (Click here if you missed my last post on the event.) So, I could actually wear heels and not fret…and it was a good… Read more »

WE ARE KINDRED

My first Fashion Weekend Sydney is in the books! It’s an event filled with runway shows, designer sample sales, the latest makeup/hair trends and champagne. It’s pretty hard not to have a good time! Fashion Weekend Sydney is different than Sydney’s Fashion Week, though. Fashion Weekend is a fun shopping event that has runway shows…but the runway shows include ready-to-wear pieces…so, if you saw a dress you liked on the runway, you can walk out to the sales floor and… Read more »

Sydney outfit

My days are completely messed up. I went all day thinking today was Monday…whoops! I then had a bit of panic attack, as I realized I had not yet posted this week’s Independent Fashion Bloggers Links à la Mode feature, and it’s already Tuesday night! But I’ll blame that mix up on yesterday day being Labor Day here in Australia…so, it was a nice long weekend here! It was also apparently Day Light Savings Time, which I was completely unaware… Read more »

The Blue Lagoon in Iceland

Iceland is a country that has risen very high on my list of countries I would like to see one day…thanks to one of my best friends, Shannon of “A Blonde and a Brew,” having visited this astonishing country. Her tales of magical lagoons, gorgeous national parks and sampling puffin have undoubtedly piqued my curiosity for this country. It also doesn’t hurt that this where Jon Snow lives…or at least where is home is filmed. (For all you A Song… Read more »

Dinner with a Geisha

“What was your favorite experience in Japan?” I’ve been getting this question quite frequently recently. Which really isn’t very easy to answer. There are a million things I loved about Japan…so, I figured it would be a bit easier to break it down into tours and places I visited. I also can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am that readers are reaching out to tell me my blog has inspired them to visit Japan! And some are… Read more »

MODCLOTH DRESS - KATE SPADE BAG

Shop the look: This past week has been interesting…to say the least. And more than enough random things have been getting mixed up or broken. You know the washing machine incident from my last post…and now my trusty cream colored, leather purse, I’ve had for ages, finally broke (to name a couple of this week’s random mishaps). One of the straps disconnected itself…and went to purse heaven. I had been hoping it would make it until Christmas because my Christmas/birthday… Read more »

Striped dress

Ok, so today did not quite go according to plan. I had planned to spend some time putting together an outfit post from this weekend that I am very excited to share with you guys…but while I was editing photos, my washing machine became possessed by an evil force and spewed water all over my apartment floor, until I managed to turn the valves off. It all happened so fast! Haha. And while I was trying to call maintenance, the… Read more »

pleated skirt outfit remix

I had a sneaking suspicion that this skirt was going to be versatile when I bought it years ago…but I didn’t expect to get quite this much use out of it! I knew that it’s been on the blog a lot, but I didn’t realize I was already up to 7 times! This was one good investment piece (and the stretchy waistband is super comfy). However, it’s never been the center of an outfit post. It’s always been more of… Read more »

Lee

Meet Lee from the lovely blog “Lee Thrifts!” She’s September’s Featured Fashionista and one of my favorite bloggers to follow! Every time I visit Lee’s blog I feel as though I’m stopping by an old friend’s home to have a coffee and catch up. Her posts are incredibly interesting, yet relatable, well-written…with great photography and style to boot! Lee has an incredible knack for thrifting and is also one of the kindest people I have ever virtually “met.” I do… Read more »

grey trench coat

Shop the look: Right now, I have boots, trench coats and scarves on my mind. However, it’s spring here! So, I am really struggling at the moment, haha. It feels so strange to be going through the motions of spring again! But I was able to compromise with myself. I needed a new lightweight coat, as I hadn’t really packed much for coats or jackets, other than a jean jacket. In Wisconsin, it felt like I always went from short… Read more »

Chicago travel

In the midst of all the moving from Tokyo to Sydney craziness, I also was in Chicago for a weekend! Chicago is one of those places that I have never actually visited just for the sake of visiting (except for a family trip a million years ago when I was in my early teens). There has always been something, whether it was a conference, a marathon, an interview, etc. it’s always been some sort of event that brought me to… Read more »

Clema W. lemon dress

…You make lemonade! I know that it’s a rather overused saying, but it is one I do love…as I really strive to be optimistic, even when things are looking a bit sour. Not that there are any particularly bad lemons in my life right now – things are going very well in Sydney! But it is good to be reminded sometimes to be positive. And what better way to remind oneself, than with the most adorable Clema W. lemon dress?… Read more »

22 Things That Surprised Me About Japan (as an American)

I know I’ve said this a million times, but Japan is an absolutely amazing country. If you ever have the opportunity to visit, DO NOT hesitate. Living in Tokyo has been one of the best experiences of my life, and I would move back in a heartbeat and stay there forever. It is my absolute favorite place I have been to, hands down. (And my husband seconds this!) I know there are many preconceived notions about what Japan is like,… Read more »

Sydney outfit

Shop the look: Yippee! I made it! I’m finally in Sydney, Australia! It’s beautiful! As I’m sure you can tell from the photos. It seems surreal to be seeing the Sydney Opera House all the time, now. And I’m really enjoying the mild weather and the flat whites that every single coffee house carries! Unfortunately, we didn’t do too much exploring our first weekend here… I had a heck of cold + jet lag + we had a whole bunch… Read more »

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

My last weekend in Tokyo didn’t end with a bang…it was more of a quiet goodbye. I wanted to remember how at peace I felt here, and not cram a bunch of activities into my last few days. But I did make an effort to finally head over to Shinjuku Gyoen National Gardens (Gorgeous!)…and then topped off the day with one heck of an experience at Ichiran Ramen! I’ll first tell/show my experience at Ichiran Ramen, and then I’ll end… Read more »
