Dinner with a Geisha

“What was your favorite experience in Japan?” I’ve been getting this question quite frequently recently. Which really isn’t very easy to answer. There are a million things I loved about Japan…so, I figured it would be a bit easier to break it down into tours and places I visited. I also can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am that readers are reaching out to tell me my blog has inspired them to visit Japan! And some are… Read more »

22 Things That Surprised Me About Japan (as an American)

I know I’ve said this a million times, but Japan is an absolutely amazing country. If you ever have the opportunity to visit, DO NOT hesitate. Living in Tokyo has been one of the best experiences of my life, and I would move back in a heartbeat and stay there forever. It is my absolute favorite place I have been to, hands down. (And my husband seconds this!) I know there are many preconceived notions about what Japan is like,… Read more »

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

My last weekend in Tokyo didn’t end with a bang…it was more of a quiet goodbye. I wanted to remember how at peace I felt here, and not cram a bunch of activities into my last few days. But I did make an effort to finally head over to Shinjuku Gyoen National Gardens (Gorgeous!)…and then topped off the day with one heck of an experience at Ichiran Ramen! I’ll first tell/show my experience at Ichiran Ramen, and then I’ll end… Read more »

Shein Polka dot dress

Shop the look: As you’re reading this post, I will be flying somewhere over the Pacific Ocean on my way to our new home Sydney, Australia! That is crazy to think. Especially since we’ve been trying to move to Australia for the past 4 years…it really doesn’t feel like it’s happening now. So, this will be my last outfit post from Japan. I do have a few travel posts from Tokyo that I will publish next week (including a post… Read more »

Striped Dress

Shop the look:   I don’t usually mind standing out in a crowd when it comes to my style choices. Actually, I don’t usually care one bit. But there are few times that I’ve found myself wanting to blend in. One of these times was when we first arrived in Tokyo. Not knowing the language or customs all that well, I already felt a bit out of place and out of sorts when I first arrived and wearing my bright… Read more »

Tokyo National Museum

From samurai swords to beautiful kimonos and ancient Buddhist scrolls to interactive displays and much more…the museums in Tokyo have a lot to offer. I know I may be in the minority here, but I really enjoy visiting museums (especially art museums) and recapping them on my blog. I know these generally aren’t the most popular posts I create, but I don’t always want to worry about the numbers. So, here we go… another museum post, mainly for my own… Read more »

Sensō-ji

Asakusa is a district in Tokyo that has a lot going on…and I, personally, loved it. I thought it had a similar feeling to Kyoto. This is probably because Asakusa has more buildings from the 1950s and 1960s than the rest of Tokyo…giving it a much older feeling. (There aren’t many buildings over 50 years old in Tokyo because of the World War II bombings.) It’s also an area in Tokyo that still has working Geishas. And you can also… Read more »

View from Tokyo Tower

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Today is actually a national holiday in Japan (Marine Day), so instead of working, we went to watch our first Japanese baseball game! It was a blast! But I’ll share more about it later because today…I’m hosting another giveaway with GPSmyCity! This time, I will be giving away 2 of my articles about Tokyo: “The Views of Tokyo” and “Visiting Tokyo’s Owl Cafe: Fukuro no Mise” (pictured below). And a reminder of how… Read more »

snoopy museum tokyo

Are there any Peanuts fans out there? I’m a big fan! Who doesn’t love Snoopy? Haha. And apparently, there are a lot of Peanuts fans in Tokyo as well. I had absolutely no idea there was a Snoopy Museum just minutes from where I am staying. I took a different route home from the gym and just happened to stumble on this museum! I had to go in! The wall pictured above is just as you enter the museum. It’s… Read more »

hippo getting his teeth cleaned

I promised to show off my panda photos today, and I’m going to keep that promise! Haha. And, of course, the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo doesn’t just have giant pandas. They also have hippos, okapis, rhinos and even tapirs! It was pretty awesome to see tapirs or okapis in real life! And the hippos were even getting their teeth cleaned out when we saw them – it was crazy! But before I show some of the other animals, let’s marvel… Read more »

Fujimi-yagura (Mt Fuji-view keep), guard building within the inner grounds of the Imperial Palace

The Imperial Palace is a huge park-like area in Tokyo where the Emperor of Japan lives. The Imperial Palace East Gardens are open to the public and are beautiful! And they are free to tour. I’m going to show off some photos of the gardens, as well as a tour of the inner grounds of the Imperial Palace…which we had gotten very lucky and were able to tour the day we were there! But anyways, a little history lesson first…the… Read more »

Robot Restaurant Tokyo

If you find yourself in Tokyo someday and only have time to do one touristy thing, I highly recommend you visit Robot Restaurant! It is the most inexplicably crazy (in a good way) performance I have ever seen. This isn’t an actual restaurant, really, as the name implies. It’s a robot show where snack food and various drinks are served. It’s honestly a bit hard to describe it, and I don’t even think my photos do it justice. It’s a… Read more »

Marvel outfit

Shop the look:   Harajuku is one spot in Tokyo that was pretty much a requirement to check out, as everyone who has been to Tokyo had told me to go. Even the person who cut my hair last week in Tokyo told me to go see it (more on that adventure a different day)! I knew Harajuku is all about nonconventional fashion and fun street style. So, I figured this would be a good time for me to break… Read more »

sailor moon exhibit

I spent a good chunk of my childhood pretending I was Sailor Moon, watching Sailor Moon, obsessing over Sailor Moon…and did I mention pretending I was Sailor Moon? Well, as you can see in the photo above, I still like to pretend I’m Sailor Moon somedays. Haha. My lovely babysitter, Ruth, had Cartoon Network…something we did not have at home. And she always let me watch Sailor Moon after school…which is where my obsession with this anime all began. (Sorry,… Read more »

Tokyo Tower

Wow! This weekend we kicked our exploring skills into high gear! We saw and experienced so much these past few days, that I will need to break it into several posts. Which leads me to an announcement regarding Have Clothes, Will Travel…starting this week, I will no longer be publishing on Monday, Wednesday & Friday. I will instead be publishing on all week days! So, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday there will be a brand new post on Have… Read more »

Tokyo outfit post

Shop the look:   You probably can’t tell by these photos, but I swear I’m in Tokyo. Haha. This little alley is right next to my apartment and was the first quiet place I had noticed when looking for spots to take photos. I have since found a whole bunch of out-of-this-world beautiful locations to take photos. So, I swear, from here on out…my backgrounds will do Tokyo some justice. I had also promised to talk a little about what… Read more »

Tokyo's Owl Cafe - Fukuro no mise

I had heard of cat cafes, but it wasn’t until this weekend that I was introduced to an owl “cafe.” My friend, Shannon, had sent me a Buzzfeed article with a list of wacky things to try in Tokyo. At the top of the list was visiting Fukuro no Mise – an owl cafe. It had awesome reviews on TripAdvisor and Google…and wasn’t too far away from us, so, my husband and I decided to see what it was all… Read more »
