Taking a tour on your travels can be a great way to see the sights and make the most out of a city. But unfortunately, not all tours run smoothly. Travelers shared their stories of unfortunate events on a tour that ruined the entire experience.

1. Love You, Nana
One tour guide at a vineyard winery brought a woman on a tour through the Merlot vines. Everything went as planned until the woman pulled a box out of her bag, opened it up, and sprinkled ashes all over the vines while shouting, “We love you, Nana! Rest in peace!” The tour guide had to stop her because it’s unsanitary to dump human remains on food goods.
2. Ditched for Dinner
While on a high school trip to Italy over the summer, a teen was having a ton of fun exploring a town square in Rome with a tour group. The leader’s instructions were to meet back up at 6 p.m. sharp. The teen arrived at 5:55 and didn’t spot anyone in the group. They waited alone for almost an hour before contacting the group leader, who admitted they left early because someone on the tour met up with a friend and wanted to meet them for dinner. They didn’t even do a head count.
3. Passport Troubles
A teacher chaperone on a high school group tour witnessed the tour guide losing a student’s passport before blaming the kid. The tour company didn’t want to admit fault because they would have to pay the embassy fees to get a new passport printed quickly. Needless to say, the school stopped working with that travel company after the incident.
4. Just a Joke
A bush pilot in Alaska begrudgingly takes people on glacier air tours occasionally, but he doesn’t enjoy doing it. And for good reason. On one such tour with seven passengers, one careless man grabbed the plane’s controls right out of the pilot’s hands. He shouted, “I’m the pilot now!” as he turned the controls, causing the plane to careen 30 degrees to the right. Then he laughed and said he was just kidding. The pilot tore him a new one after that.
5. Already on the Metro
On a tour in Paris with their high school, one commenter’s tour leader told them to meet at the bottom of Sacre Coeur at a specified time. When they arrived, they couldn’t find anyone in the group. It turned out the group left super early without doing a head count and had already been on the metro for twenty minutes. They refused to return to fetch the stragglers, who had to find their way back to the hotel.
6. Dangling Toddler
A tour guide on an open-topped London tour bus witnessed a terrifying moment when a woman decided to dangle her toddler over the railing while the bus sped down the winding London streets. When the guide told her she absolutely could not do that, she asked to speak with a manager. The manager told her the same and kicked her off the tour. “One low-hanging tree branch, of which there were many on the route, and that kid would have been gone,” they add.
7. Diving Trip Gone Awry
While on a group diving expedition in Egypt, the boat left one diver behind in the open water. Luckily, they were close enough to shore to swim back. They found the instructor and confronted them upon their return, who gave him his money back. But when the instructor asked for the oxygen tank, the disgruntled diver said they had no choice but to drop it off in the water so they could save energy to make it back to shore.
8. Poor Peacock
A tour guide at a nature preserve in Australia watched in horror as a careless man ripped a handful of peacock feathers out of a majestic bird. “He snuck up behind it, and grabbed a huge handful and yanked them all out,” they write. The guide immediately kicked the man off the preserve, but the poor peacock was left with a massive bare patch in its once beautiful tail.
9. Chasing the Bus
On a tour in Norway, one traveler decided to head back to the meeting point ten minutes early. When they arrived, they saw the tour bus driving away without them. They managed to chase it down, and when they got on board, the guide had the audacity to claim they arrived at the meeting spot late.
10. Drop a Log
One tour guide told the tourists to use the bathroom at the beginning of the tour because they wouldn’t have another chance to go for ninety minutes. One man ignored this advice, which came back to bite him. About thirty minutes into the tour, they walked through a park and stopped to talk. That’s when this man, without shame, pulled down his pants and went to the bathroom on the ground while everyone watched in horror.
