Although many joke answers came up, like Hershey, Pennsylvania (thanks to chocolate), when it comes to true influence, politics, and industry, the following list of cities are considered the most important ones in the country.

With historic landmarks such as the White House, Washington Monument, and the Lincoln Memorial, this grand city holds a lot of significance to American history, politics, and policy.
