It was clearly a popular film based on the combined box office revenue of $1.3 billion for all three films. Yet many commenters think that people only pretend to like it or perhaps just went to see the movie as a fun, campy joke.
Live-action Disney Remakes
Over the last several years, Disney has been consistently revisiting all of its old animated classics and releasing live-action remakes. It started with Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland in 2010, with Johnny Depp. The latest release is The Little Mermaid in 2023, starring Halle Bailey. Anyone who grew up with the animated classics has a special place in their hearts for these movies, and many people report that the live-action remakes have been big disappointments.
The Purge
The Purge is a horror movie series set in a dystopian future where America is essentially crime-free except for an annual event called “the Purge,” where any crime, including murder, is legalized for one night. Movie fans reported being underwhelmed by the films despite the amazing premise.

This is one I have to personally agree with. After all the hype, I couldn’t understand why people were so impressed with James Cameron’s Avatar. Many people’s assessment is that the story and dialogue are weak and the main spectacle here is the special effects.

This Oscar-winning film was loved by the Academy, but many viewers weren’t as enamored with it. After years of hearing so much praise for this movie, I finally watched it and couldn’t get through it. It felt too slow and meandering, with no rush to get to any point of significance. Many commenters felt the same way.

When the first Twilight book-adaptation movie came out in 2008, it was a huge hit for tweens who were obsessed with the popular vampire romance genre of the time. However, for anyone older than 13 years old, it might be too cheesy to take seriously, which is why people think no one actually likes this movie in a genuine way. Audrey Hepburn’s glamorous portrayal of Holly Golightly continues to charm viewers, but perhaps not enough to look past the other blunders.

Birbox was the Netflix hit of 2018. Starring Sandra Bullock, it told the suspenseful sci-fi/horror story of one woman’s blindfolded journey to find sanctuary while trying to avoid eye contact with the mystery creature that could destroy her. Viewers found the film to be slow and boring, with no payoff.
Oppenheimer
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan, this movie details physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer’s development of the atomic bomb. Oppenheimer was one of the largest-grossing films of 2023 (aside from Barbie), yet many think it was majorly overrated.
