Never Enough Polka Dots

Retro polka dot midi dress

Retro polka dot midi dress

There is just no such thing as too many polka dot dresses! I’ll always have a soft spot for floral prints, but there’s nothing like a polka dot print to really make me swoon. And if the polka dot dress happens to be midi length…I just can’t resist! (And unfortunately, this exact dress isn’t available anymore, but I’ve linked to several similar dresses above…that I also wouldn’t mind having in my closet!)

This is a dress I feel could benefit from a petticoat, though. I don’t know why, but for some reason, I’ve been incredibly chicken to buy one. However, my friend, Kara from The Dressed Aesthetic, just wrote an amazing post about how to buy the perfect petticoat. (Click here to see it, it’s really helpful!) She’s convinced me that I just might have to take the plunge and get one…and much to my delight, I can order some quality ones (Malco Modes) through Amazon! Nothing makes me happier than getting that 2 day shipping, haha.

To be perfectly honest, when I took these photos, I was really tired and a wee bit crabby…and I didn’t think to ask my husband to snap a picture of my Pikachu brooch up close. So, this photo is from a previous polka dot dress post (like I said, you can’t have too many) featuring my lovely brooch. I wanted to briefly mention it because its maker, the JollyHollieDay shop on Etsy…just released a whole bunch of new Pokemon brooches! She even has the option now to customize your own Pokemon brooch! I own a few brooches from this shop, and I will definitely be ordering another Pokemon one…I just have to decide which one (or ones), to get. Narrowing it down will be hard, especially because her prices are so affordable!

  1. Oh, I do so love this dress! The polka dots are the perfect scale and I adore the neckline. I have one petticoat, which was a little scary to buy! It’s not very full, which is great for a beginner like me. It adds some needed oomph to my fuller skirts, and I love the hourglass shape it gives me! Although it still takes a little getting used to, since sometimes the puffy stuff gets between my legs when I walk (is that common for petticoats? I should ask someone who wears them more frequently!), and when I sit down I feel the need to adjust it. Otherwise, it’s a fun way to spruce up my outfits. You should go for it!

    1. Thank you, Jen! And I do remember when you were getting ready to buy your first one! It is a bit scary, haha. I think I’ll be taking the plunge this weekend (once I have an address, again, haha). Oooh, I wonder if that is common. I do remember Kara mentioning something about that in her post..I’ll have to go back and reread it! Thank you for the words of encouragement! 🙂

  2. Love this dress! I agree – there’s no too much when it comes to polka dots!
I bought my first big petticoat from ModCloth, and while I think it is a commitment to wear it and you need to feel okay to be stared at, I do love it still!
Go for it!! You’ll love it!
Hope you’re having a great day!
    Much love,
    Mona

    1. Thank you, Mona! Haha…I do suppose petticoats will get some looks. 🙂 But that’s okay! I’m going to wait to get one once I get to Australia…less stuff to move then. 🙂 Hope you’re having a great day too!

  3. I have to agree with the polka dots! I always gravitate towards them every time I see them. You look so lovely in the print, especially blue. I’ve never purchased a petticoat other than what comes with a dress. I love the volume they give though.

  4. I love the polka dots! And I’m so happy you found the petticoat post helpful – can’t wait to see which one (or three!) you decide to get. =) xoxo

  5. Ha, we’re a little bit opposites here! I don’t enjoy wearing petticoats, and while I love polka dots I limit my polka dot usage. But, of course you look lovely AND I relate to the story of spacing on getting close up details. I’ve been doing that A LOT lately due to business, frustrations, or just being tired haha! Blue is a really great color on you too- PS! XO

    1. Haha! I guess we can’t agree on everything, right? 😉 And oh gosh, I’ve been spacing big time on getting detail shots. It’s so hot all the time that if taking photos takes longer than 4 minutes…my husband and I are ready to die. Haha. Sorry yours are due to frustrations and tiredness! And thank you so much, Lauren! 🙂

  6. The petticoat idea doesn’t really fit with my personal style, although I never like to say never. The silhouette of that dress is, however, PERFECT! It is just what I’ve been looking for – that flattering fit-and-flare style. Too bad yours sold out. I’ll check out your links. 🙂

    1. Thank you so much, Janea! It is a shame this one sold out! But the first one (from Kohls) has a pretty similar silhouette. 🙂

  7. I haven’t bought a petticoat before because like you I’m a bit afraid to! The Pikachu brooch is adorable! I would definitely get a Bulbasaur though. (:

    1. Glad I’m not the only chicken out there! 🙂 And I really want a Bulbasaur one too. Or maybe an Eevee. Or a Jigglypuff…see I can’t decide! Haha.

  8. So cute. Like you, I love polka dots. I agree that a petticoat would enhance this dress and create a nice silhouette.

  9. The polka dots are so cute. I got a petticoat as a gift its a little too full for everyday. I would like a more subtle one.

    1. Thank you so much, Jessica! And you should definitely check out Kara’s post…she has a whole list of petticoats, including some good subtle ones. 🙂
