Evolving

The older I get, the more I find myself in search of pieces that will set me apart from the rest of the pack. My earlier years were a struggle of wanting to blend in, but also express myself through my style. Now, I feel I have finally found my confidence to rock whatever clothing item I fancy.

It wasn’t something that happened overnight. I wouldn’t even say it was something that happened when I started this blog. It took a while to become comfortable in what others might consider over-dressed or strange attire. I can, however, say that the evolution of this mindset started not with my attitude toward what I’m wearing, but my attitude toward what others are wearing. Instead of scoffing at an outfit/look that I don’t necessarily love, I’ve made it a habit of looking at it from a different perspective… and finding the beauty its wearer found in it. This was a key factor that brought about a change in my confidence.

Constantly picking others apart, even if they are strangers and will never know, is poison to not only everyone around you, but also yourself. It might seem harmless to complain about that girl who wears frumpy clothing or too much makeup or none at all, or too much of this and not enough of that…but every time you do this, you are immediately honing in on the negative. And before you know it, you’ll miss the positive…in not only those around you but also yourself. How many people do you know, who pick others apart, are happy and confident with themselves? Not too many. I know I sure wasn’t.

This incredible see-through coat from designer Yuna Yang is a piece I may not have had the confidence to don a couple years ago. But boy, I’m sure glad that’s changed! This coat is incredible, and oh so unique. I can’t say I’ve ever seen anything like it. The fact that it is sheer adds an element of surprise to it. I also love how the fabric has a hint of shimmer to it…and we’ve already been over my love of polka dots. Haha. Yuna Yang creates such beautiful clothing. 1. Your post really resonated with me- I was just saying in an article I published today that I’ve gotten used to standing out in the past years. But it is definitely an exercise in confidence, and in getting to know and truly own your style as your personal expression. Love your coat- and your whole outfit actually- and you have a great writing voice!

This coat is STUNNING! It makes me want to see if I can make one similar (although it would never be as nice as your designer one!). I also adore your shoes, but I’m pretty sure you know that already because I tell you every time you feature them on the blog 🙂

Now, I’m going to scroll up and look at the coat again, because it is gorgeous!
