This Small Wisconsin City Became America’s Hottest Real Estate Market
The hottest housing markets in the US are no longer concentrated on the east and west coasts.
For the first time, Realtor.com has named an unexpected city as the most sought-after market in the country.
Oshkosh, WI, known for its affordability and serene environment, has become the most sought-after real estate market in the U.S., according to Realtor.com’s July rankings. With a median home price of $374,000, significantly below the national average, Oshkosh’s budget-friendly options and peaceful surroundings have attracted buyers in droves.
Homes in Oshkosh are selling fast—spending just 18 days on the market on average, compared to 50 days nationally. The area’s real estate is experiencing fierce competition, with many buyers from nearby larger cities like Milwaukee seeking more affordable housing.
In addition to Oshkosh, the other two places in Wisconsin that made the top 20 are Janesville (No. 9) and Green Bay (No. 18). With the lowest median price of $335,000 in the Janesville area, Wisconsin is affordable, family-friendly, and a top spot for outdoor recreation.
Hartford, CT, followed closely behind Oshkosh, securing the No. 2 spot. In July, its listings garnered 4.3 times more views than the national average, with the average home price at $444,000. Hartford’s appeal lies in its proximity to New York City, just about a 90-minute drive away.
Manchester, NH, claimed the No. 3 position. As the largest city in New Hampshire, it boasts a median home price of $585,000 and benefits from being just an hour from Boston. Additionally, the absence of a state income tax adds to its attractiveness. In July, homes in Manchester had a median market time of only 20 days.
Rockford, IL, and Akron, OH, rounded out the top five, with median home prices of $216,000 and $257,000, respectively.
As interest rates rise and buyers look for more affordable options, Midwest markets like Oshkosh are becoming increasingly popular.
This trend reflects a shift in buyer preferences toward more affordable and tranquil locations, making Oshkosh a prime example of the Midwest’s rising appeal.
