We’re Going Back in Time
Swimsuit | Hat | Sunglasses (Similar)
I can’t get enough of retro-inspired swimwear this summer. I don’t know if I’ll ever wear a traditional bikini again after discovering these Esther Williams swimsuits…that’ll take you back in time!
This is the first one piece I’ve owned, probably since I was a little kid. It’s not that I’ve never wanted one, it’s just I could never find one that fit me, was comfortable, and was flattering. But then it was Esther Williams swimwear to the rescue! This one piece is nearly perfect. It is surprisingly comfortable even if it was a bit of a struggle to get it on (it got a bit stuck around my bottom half, haha), and I think it’s pretty flattering (I ate an entire pizza the night before! But the swimsuit hides my pizza baby pretty well!).
However, there are a couple things to be aware of with this suit. Your butt cheeks will be amply covered, but this is a mainly light-colored swimsuit that is form-fitting. So, your backside won’t leave too much to the imagination. Some reviews said that this suit is sheer in the butt area. I don’t think that was necessarily the case for me, it’s just lighter colored and doesn’t really hide the fact that I do indeed have a backside.
Also, it’s red and white. So, wash it with care. I have been hand-washing mine in cold water and have had no issues with it bleeding so far. I will probably continue to do this, especially because my polka dot Esther Williams bikini is not holding up as well as I would like, because I have been throwing it in the washing machine. I’ve had that suit for over a year and wear it a ton…I was expecting it to hold a bit better than it has, though. A little part of the stitching is coming undone on the bottoms, and it kind of ticks me off. (Lesson learned, handwash my suits from now on.)
And if you are particularly large-chested, this suit probably won’t provide enough support. It’s incredibly comfortable, like wearing a low-impact sports bra. However, I probably wouldn’t do jumping jacks in it.
Overall, though, I am really happy with this suit! My retro-inspired swimsuit phase won’t be ending any time soon, so hopefully, you guys are fans of them too!
Let me know, though, what are your thoughts on retro style swimsuits? Or do you prefer the traditional bikini?

You wear that suit so well babe. And thanks for the tip for us larger chested girls – my issue with suits is always finding one with proper support. I usually have to buy separates where I can pick and choose my size because I’m much more top heavy than I am bottom heavy.
Hope you enjoyed your sunny day at the beach – I am down the shore right now and loving it!

Aw thank you, Amanda! My top half has shrunk over the years, so support isn’t as big of an issue as it once was. However, I don’t know if this is a suit I would’ve been able to wear a couple bra sizes ago. Hope you’re enjoying your time on the shore!
It’s a shame it’s so late in the season…otherwise I would definitely get one of these swimsuits! I love the vintage look, and since I don’t feel comfortable in bikinis, it’s sometimes hard to find cute one-pieces. I’ve been swooning over the whole Esther Williams collection. Looks great! 🙂
Thanks, Jen! And they’re on sale right now – one of the perks of being late in the season! 🙂 I’m not ready to accept that summer is almost over. Haha.
I am always a big fan of retro style swimsuits but somehow I only own a black one. I love this one of yours and if I remember correctly that you also have a two pieces one form Modcloth, right? I love them all! 🙂 You always look great!
Take care and keep in touch!

This looks great on you! I love the style of Ester Williams swimsuits but I’m too cheap to buy them so I made my own two years ago.
Thank you so much, Jessica! That is awesome that you made your own suit!! I would love to see it!
You look soooo amazing in that suit! I love the Esther Williams swimsuits – I think they are so chic and elegant and I’m saving up for one for myself!
Have a great day!
Aw thank you, Mona! There’s a bunch of Esther Williams suits on sale on ModCloth’s site right now! Otherwise, yeah they are just a bit too expensive. I waited until this one was 50% off before I finally bought it.
I love this suit on you! It’s so fun. Red and white is always a winning combo in my opinion. I think retro swimsuits show individual style at the beach. I also think they are classy.

Thank you, Joanna! I’ve always liked red and white too… even if it can be a bit of a washing nightmare. Haha. Hope all is well with you! 🙂
ADORABLE Sweety!!!
Thank you, Aunt Wendy! ?
Swimsuit twins!!! This looks AMAZING on you! Lovely photos too, as always! I have to say that I don’t think this suit is sheer either! Vintage swimwear IS the best. But I am starting to waft back and forth, depending on my mood, with current versus vintage. But obvi vintage is better 😉 XO

Yay for swimsuit twins! This suit looks fantastic on you too, Lauren! Your swimsuit post was my push to buy this when it went on sale. 🙂 Glad to hear you don’t think it’s sheer either. Haha, I’m sure I’ll probably end up breaking out some of my current suits again too.
I love it!
Awesome pictures <3
