Jodie of “Jodie’s Touch of Style”

Jodie of Jodie's Touch of Style

Meet Jodie! She’s this month’s Featured Fashionista and the creator of the unique, fashion blog “Jodie’s Touch of Style.” Jodie’s blog is truly one-of-a-kind! She not only features outfits she’s styled for herself, but she’s also featuring outfits she’s styled for two other models as well. Jodie is quite the busy blogger!

The way Jodie’s blog works is she features three looks in each post that represent a different age group: her own (the 50s model), Nancy’s (the 60s model) and Charlotte’s (the 70s model and she’s also Jodie’s mom). And each week these ladies focus on a different style theme. Following Jodie’s blog is a blast, as her themes each week are so fun and thought provoking. Just this last week their theme was how creating new outfits is good for your brain and how to challenge yourself! Pretty cool, right?

You’ll love getting to know more about Jodie and her blog in the Q&A below, and be sure to check out Jodie’s Touch of Style – I’m even featured on there today (and Jodie asked me some amazing questions)! Click here to see it!

Q&A With Jodie

Tell me a little about yourself.

Jodie: I tend to answer questions short and sweet (I always say, just like me—ha ha). I’m a retired cosmetic dentist who loves anything to do with shopping!! Since that includes even shopping for others, I thought it’d be fun to start a fashion blog. And then since both my mom & stepmom live so close, I twisted their arms and had them join in. I love being able to show a variety of ages, and sizes for style to be more relatable!

How would you describe your blog, “Jodie’s Touch of Style?”

Jodie: I like to think that my blog could be inspirational to other women. I tend to get upset when my women friends say they can’t wear this or that because of their age or shape. I’m hoping that we don’t have to be limited in our choices!!

What inspired you to create Jodie’s Touch of Style?

Jodie: After I retired, I took some design and fashion classes with the thought that I’d love to shop and style for other women. My husband introduced me to blogs, and the idea began!

Most style blogs only feature one person, but you also feature your mom and Nancy! I love it! Could you tell us a little more about how that works and how you all became involved in your blog?

Jodie: Well, my mom & Nancy are truly good sports to allow me to involve them in this journey! One week I’ll go over to my mom’s house and we’ll style & photograph 6 outfits at a time. Then the next week I’ll travel over to Nancy’s house to do the same. Since I’ve always blogged about the 3 of us, I didn’t realize how hard it was. I just recently started showcasing my husband on the blog occasionally, and I was so surprised at how much easier it is to write a post about only one outfit!

What do you hope the future holds for Jodie’s Touch of Style?

Jodie: Truly, I love helping others (it was the same with my dentistry)! If that can be making women feel beautiful by trying new styles or even styling a clothing item differently, then that makes me happy!! And then the future will take care of itself, right?

Jodie's Touch of Style

Each week you ladies have a different style theme, how do you come up with the ideas? Is it a group collaboration? Or is each week a little different?

Jodie: The ideas for the themes on the blog started off being mine. I wanted to focus on making the items that we already have in our closets more versatile. Since then though, my mom & Nancy have gotten more involved with their suggestions & thoughts! I’ve even had readers email me with some great ideas!! That always makes me feel good!

You recently launched “The Fierce 50 Campaign” on your blog. Could you tell us a little more about what that is?

Jodie: I’m part of this group of women that decided being 50+ is not a bad thing! Let’s celebrate it and create a movement so we can all support one another. There is definitely a lot more to come from this group—even involving younger women! Because the truth is, if you’re lucky enough, then you will be 50 at one time or another. We want to make that fact fabulous-not scary!

How can other bloggers get involved in “The Fierce 50 Campaign?”

Jodie: Right now the best way would be to join the Fierce 50 Movement on Facebook. There’s a lot of comradery and inspiration there. We are working on some future projects, so stayed tuned!!

What would you say your favorite post on Jodie’s Touch of Style is and why?

Jodie: I’m going to be wishy-washy and say that I can’t pick a favorite post from the blog. Of course, I always like the posts where all of the outfits turn out great! But then again, it’s always a challenge to me to take the posts where the readers don’t love the outfits, and then see if I can make them better at some time in the future. It seems like I get some great suggestions on how to make the “bad” outfits better!

How would you describe your personal style?

Jodie: I have to admit that my style has evolved tremendously since I’ve been blogging. I truly used to think that there was only one right way to dress, but now I believe differently. That’s one of the points I hope to get across in my blog’s message. Try new items & styles!! Fashion really should be fun & an outlet for a person’s personality! Personally, I’m still pretty conservative in my style, but I’ve tried boho, punk & a little of everything lately!

Would you say you, your mom and Nancy all have a similar personal style?

Jodie: Not really! If it looks like that on the blog, then it’s probably because I pick out most of the outfits.

My mom is very much from the generation that clothing should match. I’ve been trying to introduce her to a more contemporary style, but she complains that she has been doing it her way for over 70 years and it’s hard to change. 🙂

Nancy, on the other hand, is more of an outdoorsy girl. Fashion & style were not really important to her until we started this adventure! I think she’s enjoyed the learning and fun though!!

What is your go-to outfit?

Jodie: Right now, I’d say my go-to outfit is jeans, a fun shirt and a jacket along with some great shoes! Shoes and accessories are my weakness because I always think they can make or break an outfit! Besides, you can gain 5 pounds and these pieces still fit — ha ha!

If you had to pick, what would you say your favorite clothing store is?

Jodie: Since I used to be a small business owner, I feel that supporting other small businesses is so important. Therefore, I love going to the local boutiques. I also feel like I get more unique pieces at these places! But I’m not a shop snob! I love any store where I can get a great deal and fabulous clothes!

What is the best piece of shopping and/or style advice you’ve ever received?

Jodie: There are 2 things!

1.) is what I’ve learned from my mom who used to be a home ec teacher! The correct fit can make the difference on any item!

And 2.) is to try on items that you’d never imagine wearing! I can’t tell you how some of those items have become my favorites! And how can it hurt to try it on?

Do you have any advice you would like to share for someone looking to start their own blog?

Jodie: I’d say that my advice would be similar to how I approach life—have fun with it and don’t take yourself too seriously!

Where can my readers find you?

Jodie: Feel free to find me on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter & Bloglovin’. Thanks Lindsey for this feature!!
